Possum (2013) from the Animal Songs for Children series is a song about the Possums that live in our roof in Queensland. It encourages children to think about the impact of the urban environment on native animals. It has a bright tune and words that Primary school children will easily memorise.
It is featured on the Queensland Catholic School and Colleges Music Festival 2019 Adjudicator’s Representative Repertoire Compiled List.
Possum is available for Unison or SA & piano.
Dad’s calling the possum van, To relocate you to a greener land,
’cause your partying style is a little out of hand, And I need to get some sleep!
Oh possum living in my roof, Oh possum going ‘doof-doof-doof’
you are keeping me awake in the middle of the night, And I need to get some sleep!
You could have a lovely home in a tree, Lots of nectar, flowers and fruit to eat,
you could glide into the trees with your tail so long, in a greener place to be
Baby possum fell out of its tree, baby possum run to safety,
Baby possum fell out of its tree, baby possum run to safety!
I like the way you party! Oh sleep!” …. Sherelle Eyles
